The Sonnet 5 release

Anthropic introduced Claude Sonnet 5 on June 30, 2026, emphasizing planning, tool use, coding, and professional work. The announcement positioned stronger agentic behavior within the Sonnet tier.

Provider evaluations are useful context, but their results depend on the task, tool environment, and amount of computation allowed. Those conditions matter when applying a claim to a business workflow.

Completion needs a definition

An agent can make many reasonable-looking moves without satisfying the original request. A task should therefore state the required artifact, the checks that determine success, and the conditions under which the agent must stop or escalate.

For a website change, that might include a working page at specified screen sizes. For an image workflow, it might include a set of files that preserve approved product details.

Compare complete runs

Measure accepted results, interventions, elapsed time, and total usage. Include an unexpected tool failure and a change in a requirement. Check whether the agent preserves work already approved by the user. A more capable execution model is useful when it improves follow-through while keeping the process understandable and recoverable.
