The first generation

Google introduced Gemini 2.5 Flash Image Preview on August 26, 2025. This release is the first-generation Nano Banana entry in our timeline.

Treat editing as a sequence of decisions

For a campaign asset, start with a reference and one requested change. Approve the subject before changing the scene, then approve the scene before preparing variations. This makes it easier to tell which instruction introduced an unwanted change.

Preserve a copy of each accepted intermediate image outside the editing session. If a later edit changes the subject too much, return to the approved version instead of trying to repair an increasingly distant result.

Give marketing and engineering a shared checklist

Marketing should define what makes an image publishable. Engineering should capture the exact request, selected model, response handling, and failure path. Agree on both before connecting the workflow to a campaign calendar.

  • Check product identity, wording, framing, and brand colors individually.
  • Record which reference files and instructions produced each candidate.
  • Require a final human review for public-facing assets.

A historical preview

The preview identifier has since been retired. Use this article to understand the workflow, and consult the current Gemini model list for a supported integration. Preview and stable identifiers should never be treated as interchangeable configuration strings.
