From pilot to wider access

On October 22, 2026, OpenAI announced Uber’s company-wide ChatGPT Work rollout, expanding from an initial pilot of about 1,000 employees to availability for more than 30,000. The announcement describes approved integrations, an internal skills library, and employee training supporting the expansion.

These figures describe the scope of access, not proof that every employee is actively using the system or that every workflow has delivered a measured productivity gain. The companies said further adoption and outcome insights would follow.

Our analysis: adoption needs a repeatable operating model

Providing accounts is a starting point. Employees also need to know which work is suitable, where approved data lives, and how to check a result before sharing it. A useful rollout package answers those questions in terms of actual tasks.

For a marketing team, one repeatable task might be preparing a campaign brief from approved product information. For a studio, it might be producing a first set of image variations for internal review. Each should have an example input, a definition of acceptable output, and a named reviewer.

A shared workflow library can reduce repeated setup, but it needs maintenance. If a product specification or brand rule changes, the template should change too. Assigning an owner prevents a successful pilot from becoming an outdated instruction that quietly spreads across the business.

Teams should also make failure reporting easy. An employee who encounters a confusing result needs somewhere to record it, and a clear way to complete the task without the tool. Those details affect whether adoption survives beyond an initial demonstration.

Measure use and value separately

Our suggested scorecard pairs adoption measures with outcomes. A high count of sessions can indicate interest while saying little about whether work was accepted or improved.

  • Track which approved tasks are attempted and completed.
  • Measure correction time and the proportion accepted after review.
  • Collect recurring failure cases and update training materials.
  • Expand only after the team can support the workflow reliably.
