Two related releases
Anthropic introduced Claude 3.7 Sonnet on February 24, 2025, with standard responses and extended thinking in one model. It also announced Claude Code as a limited research preview for agentic coding from the terminal.
The pairing made an important distinction visible: a capable model and the environment that lets it inspect, edit, and test a project are separate parts of the system.
The working environment affects the result
A coding agent needs access to the right files, instructions, and tools. It also needs a reliable way to see whether a change worked. Without those conditions, additional reasoning can produce a more elaborate proposal without producing a correct implementation.
For teams maintaining a website or image-processing integration, the useful deliverable is a reviewed change that preserves existing behavior and passes relevant checks.
Define the handoff
Start with a bounded issue and a clear acceptance condition. Keep changes isolated, provide a way to inspect the diff, and require evidence from the actual runtime or tests. Record any unresolved assumptions before merging. This lets the team benefit from automated execution while retaining a practical review process for the software it will operate.
