The release
Google released Nano Banana 2 Lite, gemini-3.1-flash-lite-image, on June 30, 2026.
Choose a bounded use case
Start with one repeatable job such as exploring backgrounds or preparing layout drafts. Define the allowed variation and the details that must stay fixed. A bounded brief makes it easier to decide whether a leaner model is suitable.
Keep publication review separate from draft approval. A useful concept can still need additional editing before it becomes a campaign asset.
Compare cost per accepted result
Use the same briefs, source files, and reviewer checklist for every candidate model. Track unsuccessful attempts as part of the cost. A lower nominal rate does not guarantee a lower production budget when the workflow needs more retries.
The cost diagram below is a reminder to account for both inputs and outputs. It is not a measured distribution of charges for this model.
Expose a small set of choices
If the pilot succeeds, give users clear presets tied to their tasks. Avoid making nontechnical users decipher every model parameter. Keep the exact request ID visible in logs and technical settings so developers can reproduce a result and compare it with a later release.
