A new enterprise option
Mistral announced Mistral Large on February 26, 2024. It offered the text model through its own platform and Microsoft Azure, describing multilingual reasoning and code generation among its intended uses.
The announcement mattered beyond a single benchmark result: enterprise buyers had another supplier and more than one route for accessing its technology.
Procurement needs a complete comparison
A model evaluation should include the service around the model. Teams need to know who bills for usage, which account controls access, how incidents are handled, and whether the chosen deployment fits their data requirements. Two access routes to the same model can have different operational characteristics.
A strong English result also says little about the quality of a multilingual campaign workflow. Product names, regional terminology, and formatting rules deserve their own evaluation examples.
Building a useful shortlist
Choose several representative tasks and score them without showing reviewers the provider name. Include a difficult instruction-following case and a task with deliberately incomplete source material. Then compare total cost per accepted result, including retries and manual correction. Keep supplier announcements as context, while making the purchase decision from the work your team actually needs to complete.
